Vancouver Whitecaps FC2 Defeat Visiting Portland Timbers 2

Vancouver Whitecaps FC2 hosted visiting Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday, March 29 for their MLS NEXT Pro 2025 season home opener at Burnaby, B.C.’s Swangard Stadium. 

Both teams contributed to a competitive match which ended in a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes. Portland’s Reo Griffiths scoring in the 84th minute and Vancouver’s Nelson Pierre responding with an 89th minute headed equalizer. More was still to come as there are no ties in MLS NEXT Pro and a penalty shootout would determine a winner. 

The first four penalty takers for each team scored then Vancouver goalkeeper Alexander Milosevic saved Reo Griffiths spot kick. All that was left was for Vancouver’s Jackson Castro to slot home the decisive kick which he did comfortably earning his team the extra point for the win.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC2’s next match is a Cascadia clash with the Tacoma Defiance at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA on Sunday, April 6.  

Vancouver returns to Swangard Stadium Easter weekend to take on Austin FC II on Saturday, April 19 at 4 p.m.
